Holcim Visual Standards

Phase One

We started by developing a suite of 16 fully-illustrated A5 Visual Standard booklets for all key HSE topics such as: Confined Spaces, Energy Isolation, Electrical Safety, Lifting and Supporting Loads, Machine Guarding, Mobile Equipment, and Working at Height.

We also developed Toolbox Talks and Key Message Posters across all the topics to focus on frontline worker engagement.

Phase Two

Where required, we adapted the Toolbox Talks so no words were needed. We also adapted them to reflect regional specifics. We extended this style to key Step-By-Step Procedures.

Phase Three

We extended the adaptation of our work to specific site-based challenges. Examples include:

• Nigeria: Health and Safety Booklet
• Czech Republic: Safe Driving Practices
• Global: Readymix Driver and Pump Operator Guides

Ongoing project

For each fatality we produce a 1-pager Lessons Learned with an embedded 3D animation of the incident, causes and lessons learned, accessed via QR code.

Tactical

When coronavirus started spreading in March 2020, we developed COVID-19 specific content for Holcim, focused on protecting their diverse workforce (70,000 individuals) and families in 70 countries. Using an illustration-driven language, the content is easy to adapt across regions and requires low levels of literacy to understand and apply.
